Earlier this week, Shannon Tindle, the creator of Kubo and the Two Strings, shared on Twitter an intro reel for a Haunted Mansion animated series that he had developed with a small group while working with Disney Television Animation. The teaser features the voice talents of Blackish actress Marsai Martin as she voices a young girl reciting the familiar words of the Haunted Mansion’s “ghost host” while making her way through a series of paintings that line a long corridor, many of which fans of the attraction will recognize.
According to Cartoon Brew, this was one of two possible Haunted Mansion projects being developed by Tindle, the first of which was an ongoing series and the other a limited series. “My goal was to take inspiration from all the backstories created by the artists at WED and stitch it into one, giant narrative. The story would span several years and focus on different characters, but add up to one big, interconnected story,” Tindle told Cartoon Brew.
Disney opted not to produce the project, but Tindle is still hopeful that someday it could happen. “I’d still love to jump back in and make this thing!” he added.
