Now that Halloween is behind us and we aren’t being surrounded by Halloween decor and merchandise wherever we go, it’s easy to start falling out of the spooky spirit, which is why I’ve compiled this list of spooky podcasts to help keep you in the Hallow-mood over the next year.

For this list, I stuck with podcasts that revolve around the spooky, bizarre, and paranormal more so than horror. If you’re looking for some suggestions on horror podcasts, hit me up on social media as I have plenty I can share with you.

Odd Tonic

One of my newest podcast discoveries, Odd Tonic, is the handy work of Jennifer Page and Maxwell Holechek. Each week the two invite you into their parlour where they share stories of the strange, bizarre, and paranormal from around the world. The show is lighthearted, laced with humor and is even family friendly so if you’re listening in the car with the kids you don’t have to worry about making them cover their ears.

Each episode runs about 45 minutes and since they launched the podcast at the start of 2019 you can easily binge the series and get all caught up on all their spooky goodness. You can learn more about Odd Tonic and where to subscribe at OddTonicSociety.com

Unobscured with Aaron Mahnke

Now in its second season, this weekly podcast does a deep dive into some of history’s darkest moments and tries to shed some light on stories that have become obscured or misunderstood over time. The series is hosted by Aaron Mahnke, a name you will see a couple more times on this list, and is developed with the help of prominent historians who have studied the subject matter in depth.

The first season of “Unobscured” was released in October 2018 and did a deep dive into the Salem witch trials, the people it impacted, and the stories that are often overlooked.

The shows second season kicked off last month and focuses this time on the spiritualist movement. Over the course of the season, Mahnke shares how Spiritualism grew into a worldwide phenomenon and explores how it continues to impact our world today. Aaron Mahnke’s Cabinet of Curiosities

If you’re short on time, but still want something spooky to listen to, “Aaron Mahnke’s Cabinet of Curiosities” is a perfect fit. Each episode is only about 10 minutes long and new episodes arrive every Tuesday and Thursday.

The series, which was developed in partnership with HowStuffWorks, explores lesser-known stories of the unbelievable, unsettlingly and bizarre hidden in the pages of history. You can learn more about the podcast and access links on where to listen at AaronMahnke.com/curiosities.

Lore

The podcast that made Aaron Mahnke famous is still spitting out new episodes every two weeks and explores the darker side of history and the tales of creatures, people and places that fill it. With more than 27,800 5-star reviews on Apple Podcasts and over 230-million listens the show has garnered quite the following.

This is a long-time favorite of mine and Mahnke’s unique brand of storytelling paired with Chad Lawson’s original score sets the spooky tone perfectly.

The October Children

While not technically a podcast, this audio series follows the podcast format and features short stories, poetry, and music created for the sole purpose of celebrating Halloween. I featured the podcast previously on All Hallows Geek, but wanted to share it again since it really does capture the essence of Halloween. It ran six episodes leading up to Halloween 2019 and if you missed them you can still catch them over at https://theoctoberchildren.squarespace.com/. If you like it, be sure to let creator Patrick Tumblety know as he is considering bringing the project back for 2020.

Do you have a spooky podcast you enjoy listening to that helps keep you feeling spooky year-round that I didn’t feature? Share your favorite in the comments, or let me know about it on social media.
