Rememdy, the developers behind the 2010 action-adventure game “Alan Wake,” have announced that after over a decade, the game is getting a sequel, and it will be the developer’s first dive into survival horror.
Announced during The Game Awards with a cinematic announcement trailer, few details were provided around the game’s sequel. However, the trailer did confirm the return of the protagonist, writer, Alan Wake. “After 11 long years, the writer’s return is a reality, and the dangers lurking in the dark are even more sinister than the Taken roaming Bright Falls,” shared Remedy on the Alan Wake website. The survival horror game will bring new chilling experiences to the franchise while offering psychological horror elements fans of the original game will find familiar.
The game is being developed in partnership with Epic Games Publishing and will arrive on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X in 2023. No further announcements are expected to be made around the game until Summer 2022.
“Alan Wake” is an award-winning cinematic action-thriller where players play as Alan Wake, a troubled author who embarks on a desperate search for his missing wife. Following her mysterious disappearance from the Pacific Northwest town of Bright Falls, he discovers pages of a horror story he has supposedly written, but he has no memory of. Armed with only a flashlight and a gun, Wake sets out to find answers, but as more pages surface, his sanity and the supernatural happenings around him all come into question.
The original game received two story expansions, “The Signal” and “The Writer,” which continued Wake’s story beyond the main game’s events. “Alan Wake Remastered” was released this past October on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox with all-new 4K visuals and included both game expansions.
