In late September, we got the at-home arrival dates for “Alien: Romulus” on digital, 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Over the weekend, we learned that the latest film in the “Alien” franchise will get an additional physical release, with the arrival of a special limited edition collectible VHS release on December 3, 2024. The news was announced by “Alien: Romulus” director Fede Alvarez at a special Beyond Fest screening at the Aero Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Created in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the “Alien” franchise, the VHS release will feature artwork by renowned artist Matt Ferguson and, in true classic VHS form, present the film in full screen, 4×3 aspect ratio.
“Alien: Romulus” marks the start of a new chapter in the franchise, featuring a brand-new story and all-new creatures and characters. While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young colonizers come face-to-face with the most relentless and deadly life form in the universe.
The film stars Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War”), David Jonsson (“Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“The Last of Us”), Spike Fearn (“Aftersun”), and Aileen Wu.
“Alien: Romulus” is directed by Fede Alvarez from a screenplay by Alvarez and frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Ridley Scott โ who directed the original “Alien” and the series entries “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant” โ produces with Michael Pruss and Walter Hill.
