Amazon Studios Announces Premiere Date and More for Its ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Series

The killer from the original I Know What You Did Last Summer film

On Friday, Amazon Prime Video and IMDb TV revealed exciting new details around the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” series. During the panel, which was moderated by TV host Tim Kash, series creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner Sara Goodman shared new details on the series and the series premiere date.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer” is a modern take on the hit 1997 horror film and is based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan. The series honors the same chilling premise of the film – in a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers are stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night.

For fans of the original film, Goodman promised that there would be plenty of blood and plenty of easter eggs hidden throughout the show’s first season during the panel. But don’t go into the new series wanting too much of the original. Goodman explained during the panel that both the novel and the films are very much of their time. “I wanted to make a show that’s of this time,” said Goodman, stressing the importance of making the characters more diverse, more layered, and less stereotypical. “No one is just a jock. No one is just a smart girl. No one is just a bitch,” explained Goodman. The new series will go much deeper into the characters, and each episode will provide a different perspective into what happened on the night of the accident.

The panel wrapped with Goodman sharing a timeframe for when the series will be released, announcing that “I Know What You Did Last Summer” will hit Amazon Prime Video sometime in October 2021.
