Lionsgate announced on Thursday that the highly anticipated motion picture Antebellum, starring Janelle Monáe and written and directed by the advocacy filmmakers Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, will premiere as a Premium On-Demand release, debuting on all platforms on September 18. The film will be released theatrically in select international markets.
With audience demand for content at an all-time high, Lionsgate’s versatile slate positions the studio to take advantage of different distribution strategies. Antebellum‘s timely themes presented the studio with the opportunity to create a release plan that reaches as wide an audience as possible, as soon as possible.
