Earlier this year I shared that Bloober Team, the makers of the “Blair Witch,” “Observer” and “Layers of Fear” video games, had announced its latest project, a psychological thriller titled “The Medium.” Last week, during the Microsoft Xbox Series X game showcase event, Bloober Team showcased a brand-new trailer for “The Medium,” along with a walkthrough of the dual-reality game mechanics.
In the new Dual-reality trailer, players are introduced to Marianne, a medium hounded by visions, living and interacting across two worlds: the real and spirit world. The trailer highlights the dual world game mechanics, which require Marianne to use her special abilities to solve puzzles and explore various paths.
In a post-show livestream, Bloober Team released the first official dual-reality gameplay that shows even more of the game’s dual-world mechanics along with in-depth commentary from Lead Game Designer, Wojciech Piejko.
During the video, players get the chance to see how “The Medium” renders two visually distinct worlds simultaneously without loading screens. Viewers also catch a glimpse of how Marianne in the Spirit World has different abilities than the real-world Marianne, including a supernatural ability called Out of Body. Having access to both worlds gives a unique perspective to this tension-fueled, psychological horror game.
Launching on Xbox Series X and PC in the 2020 Holiday season, “The Medium” is now available for pre-order for both the Xbox Series X and PC via Steam. Players who pre-order the game on PC via Steam will get The Medium original soundtrack, featuring a ‘dual’ score soundtrack by legendary composer Akira Yamaoka, of Silent Hill fame, and Bloober Team’s Arkadiusz Reikowski, and the digital artbook for “The Medium.”
