Cassandra Peterson Joins Cast of Rob Zombie’s ‘The Munsters’

On Friday, Director Rob Zombie announced that Cassandra Peterson, AKA Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, had joined the cast of his new “The Munsters” film, based on the classic sitcom.

According to Zombie, Peterson will play the role of Barbara Carr, the number one real estate agent in all of Mockingbird Heights. Zombie shared a photo of the actress on set in the role as part of the announcement.

This is the second big announcement about the film from Zombie this week. Earlier this week, he took to social media to announce that the film would be rated PG, adding, “For those of you speculating, wondering and assuming that THE MUNSTERS would be dirty, violent and nasty… well, you are wrong.” Zombie has made a name for himself in the horror community with films like “House of 1000 Corpses,” which quickly check the dirty, violent, and nasty boxes, so it’s understandable why folks would jump to that conclusion.

But for anyone who’s followed Zombie’s career, you’ll know that “The Munsters” is a series Zombie holds dear to him. A lifelong fan, Zombie used The Munster’s Coach in the music video for his song “Dragula” and even recorded a commentary track alongside Butch Patrick, who played Eddie Munster in the original series, for the Scream Factory Blu-ray release of the 1966 Munsters film, “Munster, Go Home!” Zombie had also shared that he had been chasing the idea of directing a Munsters movie for 20 years before the project was greenlit, showing just how dedicated he is to these characters and this project.

“The Munsters” television series originally ran for two seasons on CBS from 1964 to 1966, spawned three films starring the original cast and multiple reboots, including “The Munsters Today” back in the 80s and “Mockingbird Lane” back in 2012. Zombie’s new take on the classic series is headed to the streaming service Peacock, and no release date has been set yet for the film.
