Shoemaker Converse and animation studio LAIKA have recently teamed up for a unique collaboration that allows consumers to create custom Chuck Taylor shoes using a bold collection of colors, graphics, prints, and patches inspired by LAIKA’s iconic films, including “Coraline” and “ParaNorman.”
The custom Chucks let fans customize nearly every element of the shoe, all the way down to the lace color, stitching color, and eyelets, but the themed aspects of the shoe are reserved for the shoe’s body, heel stripe, ankle patch, and sockliner. Fans can choose from eight upper colors inspired by each LAIKA film’s unique palette, or fans can choose from one of the two vibrant print options from each film. There is also an all-over print option that encompasses all of the LAIKA films, which includes “Coraline,” “ParaNorman,” “The Boxtrolls,” “Kubo and the Two Strings,” and “Missing Link.”
For “Coraline” fans, the two body patterns available include one inspired by Coraline’s sweater in the film and another featuring an all-over print of characters and iconography from the film.
On the heel stripe, you can choose from two graphics in either black or white. The first features a line of buttons and a button key, and the second reads, “Be careful what you wish for.”
For the ankle patch, Coraline fans can select a limited-edition patch inspired by the buttons in “Coraline.”
For the sockliner, the “Coraline” graphic features the iconic scene where “Coraline” crawls through the tunnel.
The two prints “ParaNorman” fans have to choose from are an all-over print featuring characters and iconography from the film or a spooky posters print inspired by Norman’s horror movie posters in the film.
“ParaNorman” heel strip graphics include either green film iconography consisting of a skull, crossbones, and a zombie’s hand or the words “Weird Wins” in either black or white.
The “ParaNorman” ankle patch is a ghostly green color featuring a skull graphic in a slightly darker green.
For the “ParaNorman” sockliner, the graphic is of the back of Norman as he is walking into the woods.
