Horror streaming service Shudder has unleashed its February 2024 schedule. The coming month is filled with new titles and new exclusives, as well as the documentary “Dario Argento Panico” and a new Joe Bob Brigg’s holiday special, “Joe Bob’s Violent Valentine.”
Dario Argento Panico
Premiering on February 2, “Dario Argento Panico” is a Shudder Original Film from director Simone Scafidi that delves into the life and films of Italian filmmaker Dario Argento, best known to horror fans for his work in the giallo genre.
Argento crafted his greatest cinematic creations in the secluded ambiance of hotel rooms. For this documentary, the filmmaker returns to that very setting to conclude his latest script and participate in an intimate interview, all while being followed by a film crew documenting his life for a move about his illustrious career.
“Dario Argento Panico” offers insights from renowned filmmakers such as Gasper Noé, Guillermo del Toro, and Nicolas Winding Refn, who reveal the profound impact Argento’s work has had on the horror genre and the inspiration he has provided to generations of filmmakers for decades. Through this documentary, audiences gain a deep understanding of Dario Argento’s artistic world, which continues to shape and influence the world of cinema.
Arriving with the documentary are four of Argento’s iconic films, including “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage,” “Inferno,” “Two Evil Eyes,” and “Argento’s Dracula.” The films will join the collection of Argento films already on the service, which include “Deep Red,” “Tenebrae,” “Phenomena,” “Opera,” “Trauma,” “The Stendhal Syndrome,” and “Dark Glasses.”
Joe Bob’s Very Violent Valentine’s Day
On February 9, Joe Bob Briggs returns live with a Shudder Original Special, “Joe Bob’s Very Violent Valentine’s Day.” Join Joe Bob and Darcy the Mailgirl as they honor the lusty sting of Cupid’s arrow with a kinky double-feature featuring blood, sex, and the dark side of love.
While the horror titles have not been announced for this year’s Valentine’s Day special, Joe Bob is sure to share something to get your heart racing, and if you can’t watch live, you’ll be able to catch it on demand beginning Sunday, February 11.
Skeletons in the Closet
Also arriving on February 9 is the Shudder Exclusive film, “Skeletons in the Closet.” Directed by Asif Akbar and starring Terrence Howard (“Iron Man”) and Cuba Gooding Jr. (“Jerry Maguire”), the film tells of a desperate mother, haunted by a malevolent spirit since childhood, who allows herself to become possessed in order to save the life of her terminally ill daughter.
History of Evil
Rounding out the highlights for February 2024 is “History of Evil,” a Shudder Original Film directed by Bo Mirhosseni. Set in the near future, where war and corruption have plagued America and turned it into a theocratic police state. Against the oppression, ordinary citizens have formed a group called The Resistance, and one of its members, Alegre Dyer, has recently broken out of political prison to reunite with her husband and daughter. On the run from the militia, the family takes shelter in a remote safe house, but their journey is far from over. As the house’s dark past begins to eat away at Ron, his earnest desire to keep his family safe is overtaken by something much more sinister. “History of Evil” arrives on Shudder on February 23.
