Disney+ has announced that a new TV series inspired by R.L. Stine’s “Goosebumps” books is headed to the streaming platform. Unlike the “Goosebumps” series that aired in the 90s, which was an anthology of stories inspired by Stine’s best-selling book series, the new series will follow a single story arc influenced by five of the most popular Goosebumps books.
Like the 2015 “Goosebumps” movie and its 2018 sequel, the series will combine teen comedy with horror, action-adventure, mystery, and psychological thrill. Also, like the films, the series will follow a group of teenagers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together — thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries, and pasts with each other — in order to save it, learning much about their own parents’ teenage secrets in the process.
The Disney+ Original Series is being produced by Sony Pictures Television Studios and will bring back “Goosebumps” film director Rob Letterman to direct the show’s first episode. Letterman is also executive producing and writing for the series alongside “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” story writer Nick Stoller.
Published by Scholastic, “Goosebumps” is one of the best-selling book series of all time, with more than 400 million English-language books in print, plus international editions in 32 languages.
