Disney-Pixar released a new short today titled ‘Dante’s Lunch.’ The short introduces viewers to Dante, one of the stars of the upcoming film Coco. In it, Dante, a Xolo, or Mexican Hairless Dog, uncovers a bone he hopes to snack on, but quickly discovers this bone isn’t your typical table scrap.
It’s unclear if this is an actual short, or just a piece of the film being presented as a short. In a Yahoo exclusive story on the short, Coco director Lee Unkrich reveals that the footage was created early on in the animation process and was released as, “a little appetizer until the movie comes out.”
Coco is scheduled to hit theaters on November 22, 2017 and follows the story of a 12-year-old boy named Miguel. In it Miguel looks to prove his talent as a musician despite his family’s generations-old ban on music. Following a mysterious series of events, Miguel finds himself amongst the Land of the Dead, based on the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, which helps him unravel the mystery behind the family ban.
The short comes just weeks after Disney-Pixar released the official teaser trailer for the film, which can be seen here.
