HBO has announced that the fifth episode of its hit series, “The Last Of Us,” will premiere two days early on HBO Max and HBO On Demand. New episodes of the series typically premiere on Sundays at 9 PM, but fans of the show will be able to catch the fifth episode on Friday, February 10 at 9 PM ET, 6:00 PM PT ahead of its HBO linear premiere on Sunday, February 12.
“The Last Of Us” is based on the critically acclaimed video game of the same name and takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
“The Last Of Us” has been an immediate hit for HBO. The series premiered to a whopping 4.7 million viewers across linear and HBO Max platforms, making it the second largest debut for the network, behind “House of the Dragon.” By its second episode, the series drew in a total of 5.7 million viewers, up 22% from its debut, and grew to 6.4 million viewers by its third episode. Ratings have been so strong the network renewed the series for a second season after only two episodes had aired.
New episodes of the series will continue to air Sundays at 9:00 PM ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max, leading up to the season finale on March 12.
