Discovery Channel has announced an all-new “Expedition X” season, which will premiere on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 9 PM ET/PT. However, the announcement comes with the shocking news that Jessica Chobot, the paranormal researcher featured in the show’s first seven seasons, will not be part of the lineup.
Original team members adventurer Josh Gates and scientist Phil Torres will welcome a new member this season: Heather Amaro. Amaro is a third-generation paranormal researcher who has spent decades investigating mysterious phenomena. As in past seasons, the team of investigators will dive into the stranger side of the unknown, seeking the truth behind the world’s eeriest supernatural mysteries.
In the season opener, Josh Gates joins Torres and Amaro in West Virginia for a two-part investigation at one of the most haunted buildings in America: Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, a sprawling abandoned psychiatric hospital with a tragic history and countless reports of paranormal activity. During the chilling investigation, they discover shocking secrets from the asylum’s sinister past and battle frightening forces beyond our understanding.
This season, Torres and Amaro tackle the depths of Scotland’s Loch Ness to examine new evidence of the legendary sea creature; hit the haunted streets of Savannah, Georgia, where they brazenly spend the night among hostile spirits; investigate frightening accounts of a mysterious seven-foot monster known as the skunk ape who prowls the Florida Everglades; go deep into the woods of Michigan to hunt for a blood-hungry beast that is believed to be part of a shocking government cover-up; and more.
Following the lack of Chobot from the season’s trailer and announcements of the new team on social media, fans demanded answers from Gates and Torres on social media but were met with no response.
Ahead of the season premiere, Jessica Chobot took to Instagram to send well wishes to the new “Expedition X” crew and update fans on her absence from the series:
“I just got back from holiday with my friends & in honor of tonight’s EXX premiere, wanted to give you this quick update,” shared Chobot. “To start it off, I want to wish a great season to Phil Torres, Heather Amaro, & the rest of the EXX crew. And to those who are asking why I’m not on this season, I’m working on something new with Discovery. Can’t wait to share the details about this new adventure soon!
Here’s a hint:
