On Tuesday, as part of its Nintendo Direct E3 2021 presentation, Nintendo announced that “Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water,” originally released in 2015 exclusively for Nintendo’s Wii U gaming console, is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year.
In “Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water,” players play as three different characters whose stories are interconnected and converge to uncover the truth behind a recent string of tragic deaths in a forest marred by a history of suicides. Armed with nothing but a camera that can see ghosts, players must explore a series of sinister locations that include the ruins of an eerie inn, a shrine filled with life-size dolls, and a lake full of dead priestesses. Each shadowy location is connected by a stream of water flowing throughout the mountain. This once holy water is tied to the darkest mystery of all—the history of death and darkness on Mt. Hikami.
The updated version of “Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water” for the Nintendo Switch will include new costumes and photo modes that weren’t previously available in the Wii U version. An exact release date was not provided during the announcement, only that it would be available sometime later in 2021.
