Freestyle Digital Media has acquired the North American VOD rights to the horror/thriller feature film “The Thing Behind the Door.” The film will be available to rent/own on all digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms in North America and on DVD starting August 8, 2023.
“The Thing Behind the Door,” tells the story of a young woman haunted by the death of her husband, who was killed in a trench during World War I. Unable to accept the tragic loss, the young woman turns to black magic in the hopes of bringing her lover back. He returns to haunt her in her dreams and asks to find an antic spell book that holds the formula to bring him back to life. Summoning magic from the druids, combining the forces of nature with her own blood, Adèle is obsessed with the potential return of her beloved husband. As she performs the supernatural ceremony, she ignores that she becomes The Chosen One of a very ancient lineage of vegetal incubi, craving to perpetuate their race. What she resuscitates is a terrifying, unstoppable, and indestructible creature. A thing lurks behind the door, willing only to give Adèle the child she was promised before the war.
“Stories involving rural folklore and ancestral magic abound in France but are too rarely brought to screen,” said filmmaker Fabrice Blin. “‘The Thing Behind the Door’ is a dark fantasy tale that fully embraces the horror genre film. However, the film is also a human drama addressing strong themes, such as the loss of a loved one and the place of man with nature.”
Blin directed the film, which he and Jean-Marc Toussaint wrote. The featured cast includes Séverine Ferrer, David Doukhan, Quentin Surtel, Yves Lecat, and Fabien Jegoudez.
