It’s been a few years since I first talked about “Midnight Ghost Hunt.” The ghostly multiplayer game of hide-and-seek made its debut during the PC Gaming Show at E3 2019 and has spent the last few years in development with closed alpha and beta tests, some of which I was fortunate enough to play in. Over the weekend, the game’s developers announced that the game would be coming to Steam Early Access in the spring.
In “Midnight Ghost Hunt,” players play as either Ghosts or Ghost Hunters. As a ghost, your goal is to survive the night, using your environment to hide by possessing furniture or setting traps for the unsuspecting hunters. As a ghost hunter, it’s your job to find and destroy all of the ghosts before the clock strikes midnight. Take too long, and the map goes dark, making the hunters the hunted as the dead ghosts return as vengeful spirits, more powerful than before, looking to destroy the hunters before they can escape. While an exact early access date has not been announced, it is expected to be announced soon. In the meantime, the developers have shared some of the early access features that will be available:
- 4v4 hide n seek mode with matchmaking
- 7 maps inspired by spooky tropes
- 10 Hunter weapons, 10 Hunter gadgets, 9 Hunter perks
- 10 Ghost abilities, 10 Ghost Perks, 8 Ghost Haunts
- Bots: can fill in for players, but are also able to play pure bot matches with you
- +40 skins, emotes, and taunts
- Custom game rules editor
- Voice chat integrated into the game
