Good Ol’ Time Halloween Is My New Favorite Station on Google Play

Music has always been my first love, so when it comes to Halloween, music is a large part of the whole experience.  I try to fill my Halloween season with as much music as possible, but these days it feels like if you’ve heard one Halloween playlist, you’ve heard them all.  Last month I started browsing Google Music’s Halloween offerings since it had been about a year since I had last looked and I was curious if they had anything new.  Thankfully for me, they did.  This year it appears they’ve added a variety of new stations from a number of different genres, including one called “Good Ol’ Time Halloween.”  Mixing Halloween jazz and blues tracks from the early 1900’s this playlist is the perfect soundtrack for those of you who like your Halloween with a vintage feel.

The station plays a variety of tracks from artists like Cab Calloway, Screamin Jay Hawkins, Rosemary Clooney, and Duke Ellington.  What I love most about this station is that because these are older recordings they have that old-timey radio sound that adds to the creepy factor.   I’ve left this station on probably half a dozen times over the last couple of weeks and it does an excellent job of getting me in the Halloween spirit.

If you’re not into old-timey Halloween there are also a handful of other stations that I’ve also sampled and really enjoyed.  If you’re looking for an 80’s vibe check out “Dance, Dance Until You Die,” which features The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Misfits and more.  If you’re looking for something a little bit more edgier, you could check out “Nightmare City Punk,” which features bands like The Misfits, 45 Grave, The Brains, and T.S.O.L.  Another good one is “Trackula,” a psychobilly and horror punk station featuring tracks from Tiger Army, The Cramps, Nekromantix,  Demented Are Go and the HorrorPops.

Music is an integral part of any Halloween celebration.  What are you listening to, to get into the Halloween spirit?
