Google has updated its Halloween trends feature “Frightgeist” for 2019 and unveiled its list of most popular Halloween costumes for 2019.
Like the Halloween 2019 Pinterest trends released last month, Frightgeit uses the platform’s search data to establish the most popular costumes. Google pulled data from the top 500 costume searches in the United States in September and then ranked that data both nationally and at the state level.
According to this year’s data, costumes based on IT are dominating Halloween 2019, beating out last year’s top spot, which was held by the popular video game “Fortnite.” You can see the top ten costumes and costume themes ranked at the national level below:
- IT
- Witch
- Spider-Man
- Dinosaur
- Descendants
- Clown
- Fortnite
- Chucky
- 1980s
- Unicorn
IT also took the top spot in the states of Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wiscon and appeared in the top five costumes in 18 other states.
In my home state of California this year’s most sought after costume is Chucky. You can see the most popular costumes in your state and even in some of the larger metro areas of a state by visiting frightgeist.withgoogle.com. There you can also use Google’s Costume Wizard where you can fill in info to get a recommendation on what to be this Halloween.
What do you think of the top costumes in your state? Are you surprised or do they seem pretty on par with local trends?
