Ever since it was first announced back in December, Gun Interactive has been slowly unveiling more and more details around its new asymmetrical horror game, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” On Thursday, Gun introduced us to the cast of victims that players will be able to choose from and play when the game is released.
The story in the “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” video game takes place before the events of the 1974 film. It revolves around the disappearance of a missing University of Texas student named Maria Flores. With no leads in her disappearance, Maria’s younger sister Ana and a group of her college friends set out to follow Maria’s last known tracks in hopes of finding something to move the investigation forward. They cross paths with the Slaughter Family on their hunt, the same group responsible for Maria’s disappearance and eventual death, and now they must work to survive or face a similar fate.
“When we sat down to think about the Victims in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, we had two things we kept circling back to – will people enjoy playing these characters as people, and do these characters make sense as a group that would be friends,” explains Ismael Vicens. “The first question is really important; you’ve got to give them enough personality for players to latch on to while leaving room for them to identify with and inhabit these individuals. It means we dove as deep into thinking about them as we did the new Family members. The second answer is helped along by the first. We wanted a diverse group of friends that would – surface level – strongly correlate to differing playstyles. Thinking about those relationships (Who is better friends with who? Why are these two friends?) helped us to create a group that feels natural together, even if they’re very different from one another.”
Players will have five different victims to choose from in the “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” video game: Julie, Leland, Connie, Sonny, and Ana. Each character has their own personality, backstory, strengths, and weaknesses. A mix of brains, brawn, resilience, and craftiness, each character is capable in their own way but is even more effective when teamed up with other players to help tip the balance in their favor.
The victims will face off against members of the Slaughter Family, each of which will have their own role to play and unique strengths and weaknesses. While a full Slaughter family tree has yet to be revealed, we know the victims will face off against The Cook, who draws this group of victims into this world of horror, the hitchhiker, and of course Leatherface.
