HNN Productions announced this week that its documentary Halloween in a Box will be released on various streaming platforms, including Amazon, on October 1, 2019. The documentary, which was first announced back in 2016 looks back at the history and evolution of the classic boxed costumes that were popular from the 1930s through the 1980s.
This documentary marks the company’s first release and has been called a labor of love by Director/Producer Rob Caprilozzi. “Halloween has always been a beloved holiday for children of all ages and nothing beat the wildly popular costumes-in-a-box from companies such as Ben Cooper Inc., Collegeville and Halco,” according to Caprilozzi. “I loved those costumes. They were a big part of my childhood and they really reflected pop culture for so many generations.”
The film also explores how rivaling companies banded together in 1982 to save Halloween and trick or treating after the Chicago Tylenol murders threatened to end the holiday tradition for good. “It’s an amazing story that needs to be told,” said Caprilozzi. “You have major competitors becoming allies in an effort to keep the tradition of Halloween and trick-or-treating alive.”
