Last year, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood created one of the most original haunted house themes I’ve seen in a while. Creative Director John Murdy and team brought to life several monsters from Latin American folklore for a haunted house called “Monstruos: The Monsters of Latin America.” On Tuesday, Horror Nights announced the next iteration of the house with “Monstruos 2: The Nightmares of Latin America.”
A follow-up to one of my favorite haunted houses of 2023 brings to life an all-new batch of Latin American horrors. In “Monstruos 2: The Nightmares of Latin America,” La Muerta will return to guide you through a graveyard of mythic monsters, including the soul-stealing rider, El Charro; the supernatural, doglike spirit El Cadejo, who roams quiet roads at night in search of prey; and the child-eating bogeyman, El Cucuy.
This year’s lineup looks to replace last year’s Latin American monster lineup, which included Tlahuelpuchi, La Lechuza, and El Sibón. Fans of the original monsters will be able to catch them at Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando, where the first iteration of Monstruos was announced as one of the 10 haunted houses featured during Halloween Horror Nights 33.
This is the third Halloween Horror Nights haunted house announcement out of Universal Studios Hollywood this month. The theme park previously announced A Quiet Place, inspired by the post-apocalyptic world of Paramount Pictures’ blockbuster movies, “A Quiet Place” and “A Quiet Place Part II” and Dead Exposure: Death Valley.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood begins Thursday, September 5, and runs on select nights through Sunday, November 3. This year, guests will encounter eight all-new haunted houses, an onslaught of sinister scare zones, and the iconic Terror Tram.
