Back in June, Netflix introduced us to “Wendell & Wild,” the all-new stop motion animated feature from the minds of Henry Selick (“The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Coraline”) and Jordan Peele (“Nope,” “Get Out”). At the time, it was announced it would arrive sometime in October, but this week we got an official release date and have learned it will also receive a limited theatrical release.
“Wendell & Wild” will debut on Netflix on October 28 and arrive in select theaters on October 21. The film is an animated tale about scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Peele), who enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot (Lyric Ross) — a tough teen with a load of guilt — to summon them to the Land of the Living. But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other. This animated fantasy defies the law of life and death, all told through the handmade artistry of stop motion.
Rounding out the film’s cast are Angela Bassett, James Hong, Tamara Smart, Natalie Martinez, Tantoo Cardinal, Igal Naor, Gary Gatewood, Gabrielle Dennis, David Harewood, Maxine Peake, Ramona Young, Sam Zelaya, Seema Virdi, and Ving Rhames.
