Here’s All the New Genre Films Coming to Netflix in 2022


Earlier this month, Netflix teased its upcoming year of new films with its 2022 Movie Preview. The video offers a glimpse into all of the new original content coming to the streaming platform, but behind the scenes, Netflix has released a complete list of its 2022 slate. As of Valentine’s Day, Netflix will premiere over 70 movies in 2022. Here’s a list of all the genre and genre adjacent content announced so far:

Black Crab

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, this Swedish action thriller based on the book of the same name follows six soldiers sent on a covert mission to transport a mysterious package across a frozen archipelago without knowing what dangers lie ahead or who they can trust.

The film is written and directed by Adam Berg and stars Noomi Rapace, Jakob Oftebro, Erik Enge, Dar Salim, Ardalan Esmaili, Aliette Opheim, David Dencik and is set to premiere on Netflix on March 18.

Boo!

Under the working title “Boo!” this for the whole family film will likely be part of this year’s Netflix Halloween lineup. When a teenage girl accidentally unleashes an ancient and mischievous spirit on Halloween, causing decorations to come alive and wreak havoc, she must team up with the last person she’d want to in order to save their town – her skeptical father (Marlon Wayans).

Brazen

“Brazen,” starring Alyssa Milano, made its debut on Netflix last month and was a quick hit for the streaming service hitting #1 just one day after premiering on the streaming service. Based on the novel by bestselling author Nora Roberts, “Brazen” is a thriller that tells the story of prominent mystery writer and crime expert Grace (Milano), who hurries back to her family home in Washington, D.C. because her estranged sister summons her. When her sister is killed, and her double life as a webcam performer is revealed, Grace ignores the warnings of cool-headed detective Ed and gets involved in the case.


Choose Or Die

“Choose or Die,” tells the story of a young coder who unleashes a hidden curse after firing up a lost 80s survival horror game. The curse tears reality apart, forcing her to make terrifying decisions and face deadly consequences.

“Choose or Die” is directed by Toby Meakins, written by Simon Allen, and stars Asa Butterfield, Iola Evans, Eddie Marsan, Robert Englund, Kate Fleetwood, Ryan Gage, Angela Griffin, and Joe Bolland. The film will premiere on Netflix on April 15.

Day Shift

Jamie Foxx stars as a hard-working blue, collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires as part of an international Union of vampire hunters.

From director JJ Perry, “Day Shift” stars Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, Karla Souza, Meagan Good, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Oliver Masucci, Snoop Dogg, Steve Howey, Scott Adkins, and Zion Broadnax.

End of the Road

After losing her job, recently widowed Brenda drives her family cross-country to start a new life. In the New Mexico desert, cut off from help, they must learn to fight back when they become the targets of a mysterious killer.

Currently in post-production, “End of the Road” is directed by Millicent Shelton, written by Christopher J. Moore and David Loughery, and stars Queen Latifah, Chris’ Ludacris” Bridges, Beau Bridges, Mychala Faith Lee, Shaun Dixon, and Frances Lee McCain. A release date for the film has not yet been announced.

The Inheritance

On the eve of his 75th birthday, billionaire Charles Abernathy invites his four estranged children back home out of fear that tonight someone – or something – is coming to kill him. To ensure his family will help protect him from whatever’s coming, Abernathy puts each of their inheritances on the line –they’ll get nothing if he’s found dead by dawn.

“The Inheritance” is currently in post-production. It is directed by Alejandro Brugués, written by Chris LaMont and Joe Russo, and stars Briana Middleton, Bob Gunton, Austin Stowell, Rachel Nichols, David Walton, Peyton List, and Reese Alexander. A release date for the film has not yet been announced.

Monkey Man

In “Monkey Man,” an unlikely hero emerges from prison to take on a world enmeshed in corporate greed and eroding spiritual values, seeking revenge from those who took everything from him many years ago.

Currently in post-production, “Monkey Man” was written by, directed by, and stars Dev Patel. A release date for the film has not yet been announced.

Mr. Harrigan’s Phone

Written and Directed by John Lee Hancock, “Mr.Harrigan’s Phone” is from the latest collection of novellas “If It Bleeds” from Stephen King, about a young boy living in a small town who befriends an older, reclusive billionaire. The two form a bond over books and an iPhone, but when the man passes away, the boy discovers that not everything dead is gone and finds himself able to communicate with his friend from the grave through the iPhone that was buried with him.

The film is currently in post-production and stars Donald Sutherland, Jaeden Martell, and Joe Tippett. Horror producers Ryan Murphy and Jason Blum are also tied to the project. A release date for the film has not yet been announced.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Netflix’s highly anticipated reque” “Texas Chainsaw Massac”e” made waves when its trailer premiered late last month. Set nearly 50 years after Tobe Hoopers iconic 1974 film, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town” “Texas Chainsaw Massac”e” will premiere on Netflix on Friday.

We Have A Ghost

Written and directed by Christopher Landon, “We Have A Ghost” tells the story of Kevin and his family, who become overnight social media sensations after finding a ghost named Ernest haunting their new home. But when Kevin and Ernest go rogue to investigate the mystery of Ernest’s past, they become a target of the CIA.

“We Have A Ghost” stars Anthony Mackie, David Harbour, JahDi’Allolo Winston, Tig Notaro, Jennifer Coolidge, Erica Ash, Isabella Russo, Niles Fitch, Faith Ford, and Steve Coulter. A release date for the film has not yet been announced.

The Weekend Away

Based on the book of the same name by Sarah Alderson” “The Weekend Aw”y” is a thriller that tells the story of a weekend getaway to Croatia that goes awry when a woman is accused of killing her best friend and her efforts to get to the truth uncover a painful secret.

“The Weekend Away” is directed by Kim Farrant and stars Leighton Meester, Christina Wolfe, Ziad Bakri, Luke Norris. The film will premiere on Netflix on March 3.


Windfall

From director Charlie McDowell” “Windfa”l” is a Hitchcockian thriller following a wealthy couple who arrive at their vacation home only to find it’s being robbed. The film is set to debut on Netflix on March 18 and stars Jason Segel, Lily Collins, and Jesse Plemons.
