Ravensburger, the game maker behind the previously reviewed “Jaws” and the Universal Monsters game “Horrified” is giving fans of Disney’s Hocus Pocus the chance to take on the Sanderson Sisters at home with the release of “Hocus Pocus: The Game.”
Based on the 1993 film Hocus Pocus, players must work together to stop the Sanderson Sisters from draining the lives of Salem’s children by ruining the witches’ potion. True to theme, the game features spells, quotes, and potion ingredients directly from the film.
In “Hocus Pocus: The Game,” players draw ingredient cards and try to match their cards to the ingredient types or colors in the witch’s cauldron. Match all of one color or all of one object in the cauldron and you stun the witches, ruining their potion. Stun the witches three times before the sun rises and you win the game.
During gameplay, you can gain an advantage over the Sanderson Sisters with the help of Binx the cat, who occasionally shows up on ingredient cards and is represented by a wooden mover piece. When in play, Binx helps to reveal all of the ingredients held by a selected player.
There are also four trick tokens based on scenes from the movie that can aid players in their attempt to outwit the Sanderson Sisters. For example, “Burning Rain of Death” allows you to discard three potion ingredients and draw three new potion ingredients.
But the Sanderson Sisters aren’t without some tricks of their own. Ingredient cards can feature a spellbook on them, and if they do, they have the potential to ruin a players’ plan.
“Hocus Pocus: The Game” can be played with 2-6 players and is intended for ages eight and up. The game is set to be released this August with an MSRP of $19.99
