Horror comic writer and artist Jeremy Haun and animation veteran Mike Tisserand (“The Dragon Prince”) have revealed their hotly anticipated project, “Murder Podcast,” on Kickstarter with an introductory “Cold Open” issue. The series, which was officially unveiled this past weekend at ReedPop’s Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), centers on a fictional true crime podcast that turns deadly for its listeners.
True crime podcasts and their charismatic hosts are the queens of the hill, consistently topping listening charts worldwide with many shows developing obsessive cult followings, spawning fan clubs, live shows, and merchandise galore from the over 200 million people who listen to them. One such true crime podcast darling, Dead Sounds, has just returned for a surprising second season. Surprising, because a new episode has mysteriously appeared in its listeners’ feeds… despite the unexplained disappearance of the show’s hosts after the end of its first season.
Something is wrong with this podcast. Something horribly, murderously wrong. And no one is safe. Brace yourself for “Murder Podcast.”
“Murder Podcast” is the new original comic book series from writer Jeremy Haun, co-creator of “The Beauty,” which is currently in production as an FX series by Ryan Murphy (“American Horror Story”). Best known for his terrifying horror comic series, including “The Red Mother” and “The Approach,” and more recently as the host of the video podcast series, Curious Haunts. “Murder Podcast” promises to be Haun’s most disturbing dive into the world of horror to date. Joining Haun on this horrifying journey is series artist and animation veteran Mike Tisserand, along with colorist Nick Filardi and lettering and design collective, AndWorld Design.
“‘Murder Podcast’ is a love letter to both True Crime podcasts and horror,” said writer Jeremy Haun. “I came up with the concept while talking with a group of true crime-obsessed friends. Because you know what’s more terrifying than horror movies, books, and comics? TRUE CRIME. I love telling stories that mash up genres that we all know and love. And ‘Murder Podcast’ is exactly just that.”
The limited series will kick off in comic shops and on digital channels in the Fall, but fans of horror, true crime, podcasts, and the supernatural can reserve a copy of an introductory comic – ”Murder Podcast: The Cold Open” now. “The Cold Open” is an entry point in the form of a single comic book issue featuring a self-contained comic book vignette introducing readers to the world, the stakes, and characters of a larger story – in this case, “Murder Podcast.” The issue contains a satisfying and complete 12-page short story, information on how to get the rest of the series through more traditional retail channels like comic shops, digital marketplaces, and bookstores, along with behind-the-scenes material.
The campaign offers both standard and limited editions of “Murder Podcast: The Cold Open” with covers by Haun and Tisserand, respectively. Also available through the campaign are limited signed and remarked editions and exclusive in-world merchandise to create a truly immersive experience. The campaign fulfillment is scheduled to coincide with the initial ordering period for “Murder Podcast #1.”
“Murder Podcast is a heart-warming hug with a grizzly kick to the teeth. Too much fun in one book if you ask me,” added artist Mike Tisserand. “I didn’t know Jeremy was so cruel. But he is, and it’s all laid out in the pages of Murder Podcast.”
“The Murder Podcast: The Cold Open” campaign will run until 10 am PST on May 15, 2025.
“Murder Podcast” is the inaugural title from Ignition Press, the new Los Angeles-based comic and graphic novel publisher.
