Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group/Entertainment Studios, has acquired North American VOD rights to the horror-thriller feature film “Follower” from Smallertown Productions.
Written by Serena Kamlani, James Rich, and Zachary Hersh, “Follower” is based on a disturbing true story that occurred in Northern Nevada in 2018. It centered around an aspiring social media influencer and her two friends, who became the targets of a violent mass killer while on their annual backpacking trip on a popular hiking trail. Seeking internet fame within a dark web incel group, the killer live-streamed himself as he hunted down the girls and anyone else who got in his way. Further pushing the envelope, “Follower” has an interactive element built-in, which allows the viewer the opportunity to follow the characters in real life.
“To truly convey the experience of not just the victims but the people who were following along online as it happened, we developed an interactive component for Follower that allows the viewer the opportunity to follow the characters in real life,” said writer/producer Zachary Hersh. “However, to preserve the integrity of the Follower experience, I won’t say more.”
Directed by James Rich, “Follower” stars Revell Carpenter, Molly Leach, Gigi James, Chris Scarciotta, Walker Edelman, Jonathan Jennings, James Rich, Serena Kamlani, and Ted Rich.

“Follower” will be available to rent and own via North American VOD platforms on March 29, 2022.
