Do you like scary movies? Then you’ll likely love an all-new interactive art installation coming to Southern California this spring that celebrates iconic genre films The Shining, Beetlejuice, IT, A Nightmare On Elm Street, and The Lost Boys.
“I Like Scary Movies” is a one-of-a-kind experience that let’s horror fans interact and enjoy the worlds of some of their favorite horror films. This multi-sensory experience will let you see, hear, feel and smell the environments of some of your favorite films.
Come play with us as we take you back to The Shining, where you can “sink” into the infamous carpet from the Overlook hotel, before wandering through Beetlejuice’s graveyard on your way to the Netherworld Waiting Room. Feel the fear as you enter Freddy’s boiler room from A Nightmare on Elm St. and then revisit The Lost Boys on your way to Pennywise’s lair. After all, we all float down here.
If you’re not a fan of the jump scares that are usually associated with horror film experiences, you’ll be happy to know that this experience is not about actors jumping out and scaring you. This is more about entering the world of your favorite films in a way you’d previously not been able to.
“Our goal was to create an experience where fans could take their time to engage with the fantastical worlds of scary movies that have shaped their fandom,” says Maximillian, the experiential artist behind the new installation. “We want them to be able to take a deep creative dive into some of their favorite movies in a way that is fun, engaging, artistic, and memorable, allowing them to really explore and enjoy the thrill of it all.
The “I Like Scary Movies” experience opens at The Desmond (5514 Wilshire Ave., Los Angeles) this April. The experience will run Thursdays through Sundays with thickets available for set time slots. Tickets to the event are $39.
