It’s been 31 years since Jason Voorhees first took Manhattan, but this month he has returned to help encourage New Yorkers to follow his lead and wear a mask.
A new PSA for the State of New York features a hockey mask wearing protagonist who bears a striking resemblance to the Friday the 13th killer. As he wanders the streets of New York City his voiceover reveals he’s a changed man, one who even owns a cat. He’s just “trying to fit in.” But despite his best efforts the people he encounters still scatter.
But it’s not Jason’s violent past that sends people he encounters in the opposite direction, it turns out, it’s actually his lack of proper PPE, something that is resolved thanks to the kindness of a young girl at the end of the ad. The ad concludes with the words, “Wearing a mask can be scary.” “Not wearing one can be deadly.”
The ad is just the latest in a string of ads from local governments to try and get people to pay attention to the message about protecting against the spread of COVID-19 and I’d say this one does a pretty good job, at least if you’re a horror fan.
Jason never used a chainsaw… I sure hope somebody got fired for that blunder!
