This week, Shout! Factory and its horror sub-brand, Scream Factory, announced several new physical media releases that will arrive later this year. Among the announced titles are “Gretel & Hansel,” “Orphan,” “The Island of Dr. Moreau,” “Dracula 2000,” “Killer Klowns from Outer Space,” and the animated feature films “The Addams Family” and “The Addams Family 2.”
Gretel & Hansel
The 2020 feature film “Gretel & Hansel” is coming to 4K UHD on May 21, 2024. Directed by Osgood Perkins (“The Blackcoat’s Daughter”), the film takes place in a distant fairy-tale countryside, where a young girl leads her little brother into a dark wood in a desperate search for food and work, only to find a nexus of relentless evil.
No extras or specs for the film have been announced, but “Gretel & Hansel” 4K UHD is available for pre-order now on ShoutFactory.com.
Orphan
The 2020 film “Orphan” is getting a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release on May 14. The psychological horror stars Isabelle Fuhrman (“The Hunger Games”) as the angelic Esther, a sweet, precocious child who is adopted by the loving Kate (Vera Farmiga, “The Conjuring” Universe) and John (Peter Sarsgaard, “The Batman”) following the loss of their baby. But the couple soon discover that the sweet 9-year-old girl is not as innocent as she seems.
Extras for the Collector’s Edition are currently in the works. The Island of Dr. Moreau
The 1996 reimagining of “The Island of Dr. Moreau” comes to Collector’s Edition Blu-ray on May 21. This sci-fi thriller based on the best-selling novel by H.G. Wells features an all-star cast that includes Val Kilmer (“Heat), David Thewlis (the Harry Potter films), Fairuza Balk (“The Craft”), and Marlon Brando.
Dr. Moreau is a brilliant geneticist on the brink of superseding evolution. When a U.N. diplomat visits Moreau’s island laboratory, he uncovers fantastic but brutal experiments that turn animal life forms into human-like beasts. As Moreau and his assistant race toward their barbaric goal of creating the perfect life form, the beasts revolt, threatening not only the island but, ultimately, all of humankind!
