Nintendo is kicking off the new year by expanding its LEGO Super Mario line with expansion sets inspired by the “Luigi’s Mansion” video game series. The three new sets will be released on January 1, 2022, and include the Luigi’s Mansionâ„¢ Haunt-and-Seek Expansion Set, Luigi’s Mansionâ„¢ Entryway Expansion Set, and Luigi’s Mansionâ„¢ Lab and Poltergust Expansion Set.
The Haunt-and-Seek Expansion Set is the largest of the three new sets and lets builders create a gem-hunting, ghost-battling LEGO Super Mario level that features a new-for-January 2022 start plate and a rotating hallway to access each room. The set features four “Luigi’s Mansion” characters, including Toad, a Garbage Can Ghost, a Grabbing Ghost, and the main antagonist in the “Luigi’s Mansion” series, King Boo.
The Luigi’s Mansion Entryway Expansion Set features a cemetery and brick-built mansion entrance that includes Luigi’s ghostly companion Polterpup. Other characters included in the set include Bogmire and Boo. The cemetery features a new-for-January-2022 start plate, gate, shadow ball to knock over Bogmire, and mansion-door-opening function. Inside the mansion entrance, there’s a rotating platform and a digital Golden Bone to collect for Polterpup.
Finally, if you’re looking to up Luigi’s firepower in your LEGO Super Mario sets, you’ll want to pick up the Lab and Poltergust Expansion Set. This new set features a Poltergust for LEGO Luigi with a choice of normal nozzle or Strobulb to attach to it, plus a start plate and a lab machine offering digital coin rewards. Press the button to activate the Poltergust to defeat the enemy Gold Ghost figure. The set also includes a Professor E. Gadd LEGO figure, buildable poison and antidote potions, and a toolbox.
The new sets will be available at LEGO.com or wherever you buy LEGO toys next month.
