Earlier this month I shared that Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles would again be transforming into Haunted Little Tokyo on select dates this October. This week Little Tokyo announced the full lineup of events planned for the 3rd Annual Haunted Little Tokyo.

To kick off the event, Little Tokyo has announced the return of the Haunted Little Tokyo Film Festival, which will kick off on Friday, September 27 with a special screening of John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness. The film will be screened at David Henry Hwang Theater and include themed cocktails, a Q&A session with actor Dennis Dunn, a tour of the filming location for “Saint Godards” church with Horror’s Hallowed Grounds’ Sean Clark, and a chance to recreate some of the most iconic scenes from the film in photo ops created by East West Player’s scenic professionals.

Tickets for the screening start at $20 and can be purchased online through the East West Players website.

The Haunted Little Tokyo Film Festival will continue with free weekly screenings at various outdoor locations throughout October.

  • Friday, October 4, 7 – 10 PM: Hausu at Union Center for the Arts
  • Friday, October 11, 6 – 9 PM: Okko’s Inn at Japanese Village Plaza
  • Thursday, October 17, 8 – 10 PM: Crimson Kimono (1959) at Japanese American National Museum

On October 18, the Haunted Little Tokyo Pumpkin Patch returns to the Japanese Village Plaza, where attendees will be able to purchase and decorate jack-o-lanterns using pumpkins provided by Tanaka Farms. The pumpkin patch will be open Friday, October 18 through Sunday, October 20 from noon – 6 PM.

On Saturday, October 19 fans of ghost stories can partake in the Haunted Ghosts of Little Tokyo Walking Tour, where they’ll hear the stories of the resident Little Tokyo ghosts told by those who have seen them. Led by the Little Tokyo Historical Society, this walking tour reveals a side of the Little Tokyo neighborhood you’ve never seen. The tour takes place from 5 – 6:30 PM and starts at the East West Players Theater Courtyard at Union Center for the Arts. Admission to this event is $20.

Finally, the month-long celebration will culminate with a night of trick or treating and block party on Saturday, October 26. Trick or treaters are invited to come in costume to participate in an evening of trick or treating at local businesses in the Japanese Village Plaza from 5 – 8 PM.

Then starting at 6 PM Haunted Little Tokyo kicks off its annual block party on 2nd Street between Central and San Pedro Street. The event will feature a beer garden, live music and entertainment, a costume contest with prizes, family-friendly game booths, local food and retail vendors, and more. The Haunted Night in Little Tokyo Block Party will run until midnight, but keep an eye out for details around a 21+ after-party that will keep the party going until sunrise.
