On Tuesday, spooky-loving hitmakers LVCRFT debuted their sixth album, “Under the Covers.” In their first-ever album of all covers, the group reinvents Halloween favorites like Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me” and Bow Wow Wow’s “I Want Candy” as well as alt classics like Hole’s “Doll Parts” and Bjรถrk’s “Hunter.”
With “Under The Covers,” the members of LVCRFT delve deep into their own inspirations, conjuring an all-new Halloween soundtrack that brings a fresh, eerie energy to beloved songs. The album features fresh collaborations with a host of scary, talented friends, such as Sarah Barrios, Spencer Ludwig, Dani Miller from Surfbort and TRASHWORLD, and Jess Corazza from Ill Peach.
In LVCRFT’s own words, “We started witchcrafting original Halloween music back in 2019 because we had been listening to the same incredible Halloween classics for 40 years, and we heard the calling from beyond to soundtrack the next 40 years. This year we had the honor to celebrate some of those iconic spooky records, that inspired us the most, by re-imagining them in our own style.”
The new album features 10 tracks, nine of which are covers. It opens with a parody cover of The Go-Go’s 1981 hit, “We Got the Beat,” called “We Got the Treats,” and closes with a fresh take on the group’s Halloween hit, “Skeleton Sam,” called “Skeleton Sam Encore.”
