Man vs. Monster Thriller ‘A Hard Place’ Coming to VOD in May

Following a months-long national roadshow in theaters and drive-ins, filmmaker J. Horton has announced that his crime thriller-turned-apocalyptic showdown, “A Hard Place,” is coming to VOD on May 27, 2025.

Horton kicked off the A Hard Place roadshow January 12 at Englewood Cinema, just outside Dayton, Ohio. The genre-bending creature feature went on to screen at theaters and drive-ins across the country, primarily the Midwest, with many sellout shows and Q&As from Horton. Screenings continue at indie theaters and drive-ins leading up to the streaming release.

“A Hard Place has been by far the most ambitious project I’ve ever made,” said Horton. “This movie would not exist if not for the talent, generosity, and just general good personalities of all of the cast and crew, as well as our cinema partners. In true Roger Corman style, we hit the road with ‘A Hard Place,’ traveling with the film to theaters and drive-ins across the country. It’s been a complete joy to see the movie with multiple audiences, which is something a lot of independent movies don’t get the opportunity to do.”

“A Hard Place” follows a gang of desperate criminals who seek refuge in a remote desert hideout after a botched job leaves a trail of bodies behind. But their plans fall apart fast when they discover the area is home to something far worse than the law โ€” an ancient war between monstrous predators of day and night. As tensions rise and the body count climbs, the crew must decide if survival is worth trusting each other โ€” or the creatures hunting them.

The film features a cast of genre titans, including Felissa Rose (“Sleepaway Camp”), Lynn Lowry (“Shivers”), Sadie Katz (“Wrong Turn 6”), Rachel Amanda Bryant (“Craving”), Kevin Caliber (“Future Man”), Ashley Undercuffler (“Craving”), and Bai Ling (“The Crow”).

Audiences across North America will be able to rent or own “A Hard Place on Digital VOD, including Apple TV and Prime Video.
