It’s been nearly 25 years since Are You Afraid of the Dark? premiered on Nickelodeon.  Growing up, it was one of my favorite Nick shows and probably one of my earliest introductions to “horror.”  So when Midsummer Scream announced earlier this week an Are You Afraid of the Dark? panel at this year’s event, their submission definitely got my approval.
During the event on July 29, Midsummer Scream will host an Are You Afraid of the Dark? panel featuring a handful of the team members who brought the show to life including:
- Co-Creator/Executive Producer D.J. MacHale
- Director/Writer Ron Oliver
- Visual Effects Supervisor Steve Kullback
- Director David Winning
After Are You Afraid of the Dark?, many of these talents would go on to work on other creepy and geeky projects.
Ron Oliver also directed episodes of Lexx, The New Addams Family, Goosebumps, and R.L. Stine’s The Nightmare Room. Â Steve Kullback has done effects for Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, Blade: Trinity, Battlestar Galactica, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and most recently Game of Thrones. Â David Winning has directed episodes of Earth: Final Conflict, Stargate: Atlantis, Andromeda, Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, Lost Girl and two episodes of the upcoming season of SyFy’s Van Helsing.
The panel will be moderated by filmmaker Scott Markus and it is sure to take you back to a time when you wish you could join as a member of the Midnight Society.
