It’s been a hot minute since we’ve had any news out of summer Halloween and horror convention Midsummer Scream. While the event producers have kept busy with Spooky Swap Meet, Awaken the Spirits, Cemetery Lane, and Season’s Screamings, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced them to cancel their flagship event Midsummer Scream in both 2020 and 2021. But for now, it’s looking as if Midsummer Scream will make its return to the Long Beach Convention Center in 2022, and this weekend we got our first glimpse into what the event has in store.
On Sunday, Midsummer Scream announced on social media that it would debut its Museum of Halloween during this year’s convention. The museum will feature a variety of vintage collectibles, costumes, and more alongside original artwork, celebrating the spooky season’s culture, community, and commercialism.
Curated by Stephanie Anne Jöens, former co-proprietor of the Mystic Museum in Burbank, the museum will span the history of Halloween in America, including pieces from her personal collection, as well as original artworks and cherished antiques submitted by members of the Halloween community.
The museum seeks artists to provide original works inspired by the theme “a childhood Halloween memory” and collectors interested in sharing individual items and collections that represent a period in the history of Halloween.
Those interested have until June 30, 2022, to complete their submission via this online form, which also includes additional details around submitting works or collections to the event.
Midsummer Scream is an annual Halloween and horror convention held in Long Beach, CA that features panels from the who’s who in Halloween events, hundreds of spooky vendors, a Hall of Shadows, which features mini-haunts from some of Southern California’s top haunters, The Screaming Room film festival, and more. The event will make its 2022 return July 29-31, promising three days of Halloween fun. Tickets for this year’s event will be on sale soon.
