Following the announcement of its Ultimate Frankenstein action figure, NECA announced a complete lineup of Ultimate figures inspired by the classic Universal Monsters films, that include Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolf Man from “The Wolf Man” (1941), Boris Karloff as the titular figure in “The Mummy” (1932), and Bela Lugosi as the legendary Count in “Dracula” (1931). On Tuesday, NECA unveiled its Ultimate Wolf Man figure along with the release date.
The Ultimate Wolf Man figure will be released for the 80th anniversary of Universal’s horror film classic and is expected to be released in November 2021. The figure’s sculpt captures the human and monster sides of the iconic character famously portrayed by Lon Chaney Jr. and will include interchangeable heads, hands, and lower legs. The 7-inch scale figure features Lon Chaney Jr’s authorized likeness and includes wolf cane, animal trap, and stand accessories.
Unlike the original Ultimate Frankenstein figure, which was first released in black and white with a color variant announced later, the Ultimate Wolf Man figure reveal is colorized. I reached out to NECA to find out if a black and white variant is expected, but there are no plans for a variant for now. However, they did say they would be looking at fan responses, and if it was something people really wanted, it could always become a possibility. After the announcement, I saw numerous fans on social media asking about a black and white release, so fingers crossed, we’ll see a variant in the future.
The Ultimate Universal Monsters Wolf Man 7-Inch Scale Action Figure is available for pre-order now through Entertainment Earth or wherever you buy NECA toys.
