On Friday, NECA kicked off its annual 12 Days of Downloads event. This event offers collectors a series of visual guides to help them keep tabs on their NECA toy collections. To kick off this year’s festivities, NECA debuted a visual guide for its Ben Cooper Costume Kids figures. With the guide’s release, we’re getting our first look at what appears to be Series 5 and 6 of the figures.
Each series thus far has featured five figures, the latest of which includes modern horror icons Count Orlok from “Nosferatu,” Captain Spaulding from “House of 1000 Corpses,” John Carver from “Thanksgiving,” Sam from “Trick ‘r Treat,” and Krampus!
Following that logic, Friday’s download appears to include at least two more waves of figures that had not been more widely revealed. While NECA has taken some liberties with the characters featured in more recent waves, creating stylized figures that look like they’re wearing Ben Cooper costumes that never were, the subsequent two series releases appear to be tapping into some of the actual costumes from Halloween’s of yesteryear.
The download shows Batgirl, Batman, The Joker, Superman, and Wonder Woman as the next five figures following series 4, which suggests these characters will make up series 5. These figures were first showcased at this year’s New York Comic Con, and this reveal suggests they will be the next wave of figures to be released. All five DC characters were once available as actual Ben Cooper Halloween costumes.
Five more figures appear after the DC characters on the guide. Classic Halloween costumes inspire each of these figures and include licensed characters like the Metaluna Mutant and Wolfman, as well as more generic characters like the Clown, Spooky Monster, and Visible Man.
The guide also appears to be the first time that NECA acknowledges that not all of its Ben Cooper Costume Kids figures are wearing Ben Cooper costumes. The visual guide features another name opposite of Ben Cooper: Collegeville Costumes. Like Ben Cooper Costumes, Collegeville Costumes was one of the largest costume manufacturers in the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s. While all of the Ben Cooper Costume Kids Collection figures have featured the Ben Cooper logo on the packaging, many of the costumes in the series were actually released by Collegeville Costumes, such as the Vampire Girl and Witch from series 2.
