Jenna Ortega (“The Babysitter: Killer Queen”) has been tapped for the lead role in Tim Burton’s live-action Addams Family series “Wednesday,” according to Deadline.
The coming-of-age comedy, written by “Smallville” creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, will be directed by Burton and revolves around the beloved and iconic daughter of the Addams Family, Wednesday Addams (Ortega), as she navigates life at Nevermore Academy. In the eight-episode series, Wednesday will attempt to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years prior – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body.
Ortega joins a growing line of actresses to take on the role of Wednesday Addams. The character was most recently played by Chloë Grace Moretz, who voiced the character for the 2019 animated film “The Addams Family,” and more notably, Christina Ricci played the character in the feature films “The Addams Family” in 1991 and sequel “Addams Family Values” in 1993.
While Ortega is more known for her roles in shows like “Jane The Virgin” and Disney Channel’s “Stuck In The Middle,” she’s no stranger to a darker performance. She starred in the 2020 Netflix horror sequel “The Babysitter: Killer Queen” and was cast in the upcoming reboot of “Scream.”
I AM SO EXCITED for this series! I really hope they do a great job with it!
