When Netflix announced that season four of its “Castlevania” anime series would be the show’s last, there were whispers that the show might be getting a spinoff. On Friday, during the final day of its Geeked Week virtual event, Netflix confirmed a series spinoff is in the works.
“Castlevania” Executive Producer Kevin Kolde, Director Sam Deats, and Assistant Director Adam Deats joined the live stream and announced that they are working with a new writer and showrunner, Clive Bradley, to expand the “Castlevania” universe. The new series will be set in France in 1792 with the French Revolution as a backdrop to the story and will feature the characters Richter Belmont — a descendant of “Castlevania” characters Trevor and Sypha — and Maria Renard.
The 10-episode fourth and final season of “Castlevania,” which launched in 2017, was released on May 13, 2021, and concluded the story of Trevor Belmont, the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, and his fight against Dracula and his sinister vampire war council.
