When Guillermo del Toro’s Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark was first announced, many of us wondered how the film would be developed. The book series the film is based on easily lends itself to an anthology horror film, but del Toro took it in another direction. Last month, we got a glimpse at some of the characters from the original children’s books that made it into the film, but we didn’t get much in terms of how del Toro planned to integrate these characters into an overarching story. In the new teaser trailer released this week, we finally get a glimpse into how these classic folk tales will tie into a film about a group of teens in 1960’s America.
The film incorporates the “Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark” monsters by making them stories written by a young girl who has lived a tortured life. In the end, those stories come to life after being discovered by a group of teenagers. One by one the teens are haunted by what they’ve discovered, each visited by a different monster, curse, or apparition described featured in the original books.
