Last October, Nickelodeon rebooted its classic series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” with a limited miniseries that introduced us to an all-new Midnight Society whose scary stories mysteriously came to life in their own town. This week, the network announced that the series would return for a second season.
According to Deadline, the series will return as an anthology series, which would make it more like the original “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” and will feature new scary stories and a new Midnight Society. Though it did report that the events in the chilling tales would unfold around the members of the Midnight Society, similar to what happened in last year’s miniseries. A total episode order has not yet been released.
Last year’s three-part “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” miniseries told the story of Rachel, a new girl in town whose love of scary movies earns her an invite into the Midnight Society, so long as she can tell a scary story. Rachel delivers, but the group soon finds that the story born of Rachel’s nightmares is unfolding in real life and may be the reason one of their classmates went missing. In the end, Rachel is made to face her nightmares in hopes of saving her newfound friends in the Midnight Society.
