I’ll be honest, I don’t recall when I started following The Ghost In You, AKA Billy Polard, on Instagram. His account is a mix bag of vintage Halloween, fun thrift store finds, and the occasional sketch and its content regularly elicits a feeling of nostalgia. I remember early on stumbling upon his 2014 song “ten thirty one,” which he calls his “love letter to Halloween and all the nostalgia and emotions the fall season brings.” If you haven’t heard it yet, go check out the music video, which he directed, shot and edited himself. Seriously, go watch it. I’ll be here when you get back…
Well, what did you think? So good right?! I fell in love with it, which is why I was excited when out of the blue Polard emailed me to let me know he had released a follow up to the song this week called, “October.”
If “ten thirty one” was The Ghost In You’s love letter to Halloween then I would say “October” is a love letter to fall as it fully captures the essence of the season both lyrically and musically. Polard’s haunting vocals echo over a rhythmic acoustic guitar and an airy synth melody that throughout the song grows and fades like an autumn breeze.
Its been 90 degrees plus where I live here in California this week, but while listening to this song I swear I could feel the chill of the autumn air (or maybe it was just my air conditioning 🤔). Regardless the song is great and you can check it out in the lyric video for the song that was released last weekend.
If you dig the song you’ll definitely want to check out the rest of the work from Polard over at TheGhostInYou.net. There you’ll find other music as well as artwork and access to his Etsy store. Polard is also the author and illustrator of the spooky children’s book “The Undead Adventures of Bone Boy and Ghost Girl,” which tells of the undying friendship between a skeleton and a ghost who live together in a cemetery. You can pick it up now on Amazon for the spooky price of $13.13.
