Blumhouse has released the official trailer for the highly anticipated next chapter in “The Exorcist” franchise, “The Exorcist: Believer.” The film is the first in a new trilogy helmed by David Gordon Green that act as a follow-up to the 1973 horror classic. A formula similar to what Green did with his “Halloween” franchise revival.
“The Exorcist: Believer,” tells the story of Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.), who, since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, has raised their daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.
Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before, for the first time since 1973.
The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (“Harriet”) and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (“Fosse/Verdon”) as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.
“The Exorcist: Believer” arrives in theaters on Friday, October 13, 2023.
