Peacock Orders Supernatural Drama ‘Girl In The Woods’ from Crypt TV

NBCUniversal streaming service Peacock announced today that it has ordered an eight-episode series based on Crypt TV’s 2018 short film “The Door In The Woods” and its 2020 sequel “The Girl In The Woods.”

The new series, titled “Girl In The Woods,” is set in the Pacific Northwest and follows a young girl’s escape from her mysterious, cult-like colony that guards the world against monsters hidden behind a secret door within the woods.

The first four episodes of the series, including the pilot, will be directed by Krysten Ritter (“Jessica Jones”), with Jacob Chase (“Come Play”) set to direct the last four episodes. Casey Modderno (“The Birch”) will serve as head writer.

“As a huge fan of horror and all things coming of age, this is one of the most exciting pilot scripts I’ve gotten my hands on. I fell in love with the characters, the writing, the setting, and the themes the second I read it,” said director and co-executive producer Krysten Ritter. “I also loved Crypt’s original short ‘The Door in the Woods’ and the universe they are building. I’m so thrilled to have the opportunity to helm this badass female-driven monster hunting series with Jane Casey Modderno, Crypt and Peacock.”
