‘Poltergeist’ Returning to Theaters for Film’s 40th Anniversary

1982's Highest Grossing Horror Movie Returns to the Big Screen September 25, 26, AND 28 ONLY

Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies are teaming up to bring horror classic “Poltergeist” back to the big screen for three select dates later this month to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary.

Directed by Tobe Hooper (“Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) and written and produced by Steven Spielberg, “Poltergeist” was released on June 4, 1982. The film tells the story of a suburban California family who, after moving into a new home, discover malevolent spirits inhabit it. What starts as innocent and playful paranormal activity quickly turns when the family’s 10-year-old daughter Carol Anne (Heather O’Rourke) is pulled from this world into another by the poltergeists. With nowhere else to turn, parents Steve (Craig T. Nelson) and Diane Freeling (JoBeth Williams) enlist the aid of paranormal experts and an exorcist (Zelda Rubinstein) to try and save their daughter.

“Poltergeist” was nominated for three Academy Awards and was the highest-grossing horror film of 1982. 40 years later, it remains a horror favorite. The film will return to select theaters on September 25, 26, and 28. Tickets for these special screenings can be purchased at FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices.
