CreatorVC, the creators of the critically acclaimed “In Search of Darkness” ’80s horror documentary trilogy, has opened pre-orders and dropped the first trailer for its latest horror documentary, “Terrorbytes.” The five-part episodic documentary is slated to arrive in 2025 and will feature five hours of content exploring and celebrating the rich history of horror gaming, taking you behind the scenes with the developers, artists, composers, and other experts who crafted some of the scariest games of all time.
CreatortorVC has assembled a still growing cast of over 30 horror gaming experts that includes legendary “Silent Hill” composer & producer Akira Yamaoka, “Dead by Daylight” co-directors Mathieu Coté and Dave Richard, Sierra Online co-founders Roberta Williams (Writer/Designer: “Phantasmagoria”) and Ken Williams (Programmer: “Mystery House”), as well as Dave Szymanski (Creator: “Iron Lung”, “Dusk”), Hubert Chardot (Writer on the original “Alone in the Dark” trilogy), and Hifumi Kōno (Director: “Clock Tower,” “Clock Tower: The First Fear”).
Each episode of the documentary will dive into a different aspect of horror gaming. Episode one will explore the origins and enduring popularity of survival horror. Episode two will explore the good, the bad, and the ugly of licensed horror characters and properties in video games. Episode three will dive into cinematic horror games of the ’90s, like “Night Trap” and “Phantasmagoria.” Episode 4 will tap into indie horror games like “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and “Amnesia.” The final chapter will dive down the rabbit hole of controversy surrounding horror video games and explore the urban legends behind allegedly “cursed” games.
“TerrorBytes: The Evolution of Horror Gaming” is available for pre-order now through March 3, with both digital and physical media options available. Pre-ordering will also get you tapped into over 15 hours of online events planned leading up to the documentary release, including Q&As with some of the biggest names in horror gaming, with exclusive events starting as early as April of this year.
