The penultimate season of “Stranger Things” is set to debut in just two weeks, and leading up to the season premiere, there has been a massive wave of merchandising in play. In recent weeks we’ve seen everything from “Stranger Things 4” Funko Pop! figures to the more bizarre merchandising efforts like “Stranger Things” pet toys and plant-based nuggets. This week, surf and snowboard apparel company Quiksilver joins the growing list of brands with “Stranger Things” merchandise and has teased a new Quiksilver x Stranger Things collection with the release of a new short film called “Strange Surfing.”
What started as an epic road trip to find waves soon takes a strange turn, flipping 5 friends’ lives upside down. This is Strange Surfing – an exclusive film collaboration between Stranger Things and Quiksilver.
The new short stars several professional surfers, including Kanoa Igarashi, Andy Nieblas, and Mikey Wright, and features some familiar elements from “Stranger Things 4” like Surfer Boy Pizza and The Hellfire Club, both of which have appeared in the various trailers for the upcoming season.
While the nearly nine-minute video is a feat of its own, its whole purpose is to get fans excited about the new Quiksilver x Stranger Things collection, which will feature a series of releases inspired by “Stranger Things” and the year 1986. The new collection is set to debut later this month and is broken out into five categories: 1986, Character Wardrobe, Surfer Boy Pizza, Lenora Hills Surf Club, and Hellfire Surf Club.
The 1986 line puts a modern spin on some of Quiksilver’s iconic designs from the year 1986 and “flips them Upside Down.” This will be the first part of the collection released and will debut on May 20, 2022. The rest of the collection will be released on May 27 to coincide with the premiere of “Stranger Things 4.”
The Character Wardrobe line is exactly what it sounds like and features some of the official wardrobe designs worn by the cast and characters in “Stranger Things 4.”
The Surfer Boy Pizza line will feature official Surfer Boy Pizza merch inspired by the California pizza shop featured in the upcoming season of “Stranger Things.”
The Lenora Hills Surf Club line is inspired by 1986 surf fashion “in all its pastel and print block glory.” Lenora Hills is the city the Byers and Eleven have relocated to in “Stranger Things 4.” This new line will allow fans to rep the town and its surf culture.
Finally, the Hellfire Surf Club blends Hawkins High’s D&D club with surf fashion to create a line that’s dark fantasy inspired, featuring some rock n’ roll flair.
