Today Capcom held its Resident Evil Showcase, a streaming event to introduce the first-gameplay footage and a brand new trailer for its upcoming Resident Evil title, “Resident Evil Village.” During the event, the developers also announced pre-orders and a release date for the upcoming game.
A follow up to 2017’s “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard,” “Resident Evil Village” continues the story of Ethan Winters, picking up several years after the events of “Resident Evil 7.” Now living with his wife and hoping to put the past behind him, his peaceful new existence is quickly detailed when Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from previous Resident Evil games, sends Ethan into a twisted new nightmare.
Resident Evil Village, which was previously announced for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, will be released on May 7, 2021, with pre-orders kicking off today. It was also announced that the game would now also be available for the PS4 and Xbox One with the release during the event.
For those still waiting to get their hands on a next-gen console, you’ll be able to purchase the game for current-gen consoles and digitally upgrade for free once you get your hands on the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
Game Producer, Peter Fabiano also unveiled the handful of special editions of the game that will be made available in addition to the standard edition. The first edition announced was a digital Deluxe Edition, which will be available on all platforms. The Digital Deluxe Edition will feature a number of in-game items that call back to “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard,” such as the Found Footage RE7 Filter, Mr. Everywhere bobblehead, a tape recorder Save Device and more.
Fabiano also unveiled the console exclusive Collector’s Edition, which includes all of the Deluxe Edition content, along with a Chris Redfield figure, steelbook case, poster, and artbook.
For folks who haven’t yet played Resident Evil 7, there will also be a Resident Evil Village & Resident Evil 7 Complete Bundle, which gives you access to Resident Evil 7 while you wait for the release of Resident Evil Village.
Pre-ordering any of the editions announced will also come with the bonus perks of a Mr. Raccoon Weapon Charm and a Survival Resource Pack, which will offer additional support during the first few hours of gameplay.
Pre-orders for the various editions are now live in the Xbox store and PlayStation Store, but were not yet live on Steam for PC as of the time of this writing.
Starting today, PS5 players will also be able to download an exclusive Resident Evil Village demo called “Maiden.” Though you will not play as Ethan Winters or experience any combat in the demo, the demo will allow you to explore the vivid world within the game’s castle walls. A similar demo is slated to be released to all other platforms sometime this spring.
