While it’s been over a year since we first learned of Rob Zombie’s “The Munsters” movie, the outstanding question has always been where the film would be released. Early reports suggested the NBCUniversal streaming platform Peacock would be the film’s home, an obvious choice considering Universal 1440 Entertainment is co-producing the release. However, on Monday, we learned that the film will actually premiere this fall on Netflix.
The news came via Rob Zombie’s Instagram account where he shared a photo of the recently released “The Munsters” poster alongside the key art for Netflix’s “Wednesday” series, which is also expected to debut sometime this fall.
Zombie captioned the photo with, “This fall we are gonna spook-out like it’s 1964! Yep, THE MUNSTERS and THE ADDAMS FAMILY are returning to the boob tube at the same time courtesy of @netflix”
Zombie paired the images with photos of an old fall preview issue of TV Guide for the 64-65 season he owns that featured both “The Munsters” and “The Addams Family.” Adding in the caption, “It’s been 58 years since this clash of the titans first happened.”
Zombie’s “The Munsters” reboot will be an origin story for the Munsters and tell of how Herman and Lily come together and move from Transylvania to an American suburb.
